Each of these education levels has its advantages and helps you to improve your qualification level and your professional skills as musicologist or concert performer.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES, DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY, PHD

The postgraduate curriculum provides training for applicants at the third level of higher education for purpose of which is to obtain a PhD in the following specialties:

025 Musical Arts, Field of Study 02 Culture and Arts at the departments:

  • History of world music
  • History of Ukrainian music and musical folklore
  • Ancient music
  • Theory of music
  • Theory and history of music performance
  • and

    034 Cultural Studies, Field of Study 03 Humanities at the “Theory and history of culture” department.

    Each of these specialties and departments provides a specific perspective of the music studying – its history, culture, style and performance particularities, compositional techniques etc. The applicant writes the articles, takes part in the conferences and presents a doctoral thesis for the defense in the process of mastering the chosen research subject.

    The courses are 4 years in length.

    ASSISTANTSHIP/INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

    Assistantship/Internship Programs is the first stage of the third educational and creative level of higher education to obtain the Doctor of Arts degree. It gives the qualification of a Lecturer at Higher Art Education Institution of III–IV Levels of Accreditation. This stage of higher education provides the improvement of performance skills.

    The standard period for an applicant’s preparation at the Assistantship/Internship is 1 year for the Specialty 025 Musical Arts. Accordingly, the applicant must perform two recitals during one year of study.

  • CREATIVE POSTGRADUATE STUDIES, DOCTOR OF ARTS

    Creative Post-graduate Studies provides the preparing of applicants for Doctor of Arts degree at the third educational and creative level of higher education. It corresponds to the ninth level of the National qualifications framework by the specialties 025 Musical Arts and 026 Performing Arts.

    Specialty 025 Musical Arts (a two years term of study) is aimed at the improving of the performing skills and the writing a research project. A separate part of the learning process is a preparation of a creative project, which have to reflect not only the acquired performance skills, but also the creative and scientific components – a personal creative vision of a particular performance problem. admission to this level is possible only after the completed study at Assistantship/Internship (1 year).

    The training is carried out at the departments of:

  • Specialty 026 Performing Arts. This program includes 3 years of study and is carried out at the department of Opera preparing and Musical direction. As graduation paper the applicant must publish a research work and creative project, namely to prepare a stage directorial version of the opera (or another work agreed with the supervisor).

    DOCTORAL CURRICULUM

    Doctoral studies carry out the preparation of the higher education applicants at the fourth scientific level of higher education in order to obtain a Doctor of Sciences by the specialties:

    025 Musical art, Field of Study 02 Culture and Arts;

    034 Cultural Studies, Field of Study 03 Humanities.

    Studying for doctoral studies involves writing the scientific articles, numerous reports at the conferences, preparing and printing a monograph, and further thesis defense.
