Italy Honors Ukrainian Cultural Figures Maksym Tymoshenko and Anatoliy Solovianenko with the Order of the Star of Italy

Italian Ambassador to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, Awards High State Honor to Two Ukrainian Arts Figures
Anatoliy Solovianenko and Maksym Tymoshenko Honored with High State Decoration of the Italian Republic

The Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa, awarded the Order of the Star of Italy (Ordine della Stella d’Italia) to two representatives of Ukrainian musical culture — renowned Ukrainian opera director Anatoliy Solovianenko and rector of the National Music Academy of Ukraine, the Kyiv Conservatory, Maksym Tymoshenko.

The Order of the Star of Italy is one of the highest state honors of the Italian Republic, bestowed upon foreign citizens for special merits in developing friendly relations and cooperation between Italy and other countries, as well as for strengthening ties with Italy.

On August 28, an official ceremony was held at the residence of the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Ukraine in Kyiv in honor of the two Ukrainians awarded this high distinction. Ambassador Formosa presented the awards to Anatoliy Solovianenko and Maksym Tymoshenko on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic.

Anatoliy Solovianenko was awarded the degree of Officer (Ufficiale), and Maksym Tymoshenko was awarded the degree of Knight (Cavaliere) of the Order of the Star of Italy.

Legends of world culture have been awarded this high honor in different years

The Order of the Star of Italy has a special history and holds a prominent place among the state decorations of the Italian Republic. Its current status was established in 2011 on the basis of the previous Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, founded after World War II.

In different years, this high distinction has been awarded to renowned figures of world culture, arts, science, and public life. Among them are U.S. President John F. Kennedy, legendary American singer and actor Frank Sinatra, as well as Princess Charlene of Monaco, who was awarded the highest degree of the modern Order of the Star of Italy — Knight Grand Cross.

The tradition of honoring foreigners who, through their activities, contribute to strengthening Italy’s international ties with the Order of the Star of Italy gives special significance to this year’s awarding of two Ukrainian cultural figures.

Recognition of Ukrainian art and international cultural cooperation

As Ambassador Formosa mentioned in his speech, awarding of Anatoliy Solovianenko and Maksym Tymoshenko is a high recognition of their personal contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture, musical arts, and education, as well as to the strengthening of cultural ties between Ukraine and Italy.

Anatoliy Solovianenko is a renowned Ukrainian opera director, a representative of a famous Ukrainian artistic dynasty. He is the son of the legendary Ukrainian opera singer, Hero of Ukraine, Anatoliy Borysovych Solovianenko. Through his directorial work, he continues the traditions of Ukrainian opera theatre and actively represents Ukrainian art on the international stage.

Maksym Tymoshenko is the rector of the National Music Academy of Ukraine — the Kyiv Conservatory, a figure in Ukrainian music education and culture. He is the son of the distinguished Ukrainian cultural figure and long-time rector of the Kyiv Conservatory, Oleh Semenovych Tymoshenko.

The event gains special symbolism from the fact that the Order of the Star of Italy has simultaneously honored representatives of two key areas of Ukrainian musical life — opera arts and music education.

This ceremony became not only a manifestation of high personal appreciation for the professional activities of the two Ukrainians, but also an important sign of support and respect for Ukrainian culture on the part of the Italian Republic.

In a difficult time for Ukraine, culture continues to be one of the most powerful instruments of international dialogue, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening European unity.

The honoring of Anatoliy Solovianenko and Maksym Tymoshenko with the Order of the Star of Italy is yet another testament to the strength of friendly relations between Ukraine and Italy and an important contribution to the further development of Ukrainian-Italian cultural partnership.
